Overview

2007 NaviForum Shanghai & Display of International Individual Navigation and Entertainment Products, following the same event through 2004 to 2006, was successfully held in Shanghai on Dec. 5th – 7th, 2007. It was the only international navigation event of its kind organized by the China government.

NaviForum Shanghai 2007 had Mr. Jianlin Cao, Vice Minister of Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr. Yiren Min, Vice Director-General of State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping, and Ms. Dinghua Yang, Vice Mayor of Shanghai Municipal Peopl's Government, as the honorary chairpersons. Based on the theme "the multiple applications of new positioning systems and new navigation technologies", Mr. Xiaohan Liao, Deputy Director-General of High & New Tech Development & Industrialization Department of Ministry of Science& Technology and Mr. Yongxiong Li, Director General of Department of Map Management of State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping gave keynote speeches at the forum. Mr. Kehong Chen, Vice Chairman of Science & Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality delivered the wonderful speech "Promoting Operation Services, to Accelerate the Navigation Industry" on the basis of Shanghai navigation industry. Their participation and enthusiasm reflected the close attention to China navigation industry and strong support for NaviForum from the China government.

NaviForum Shanghai 2007 attracted 700 participants from domestic and international navigation circles, including over 90 representatives from nine global auto giants and domestic major auto brands, as well as 40 delegates from key telecom operators like China Mobile. The speaker line-up was comprised of 71 top authorities from governments, academic circles, and industrial sectors, with 41% of them from overseas.

Six tracks were specially designed for NaviForum Shanghai 2007, namely In-vehicle Navigation, Traffic Info, Telematics, New Positioning System, Portable Navigation, and Digital Navigation Map, covering almost all aspects of the navigation industry. "Face to Face with Experts" was intended to give attendees a good chance to exchange ideas with experts face to face and it won high appraisal. The elaborate networking cocktail party also highlighted the forum.

The concurrent 2007 Shanghai Exhibition of Navigation Technology and Product also won favorable comments. The span of two and a half days had exhibition lovers of over 3,000 person times. The "2007 Product of China Award", though present for the first time at NaviForum, found great support from Society of Automotive Engineers of China. Shinco GM-4308, Garmin 610, and Siemens VDO CN3300 were crowned with "2007 Products of China". The award ceremony was held at the welcome banquet and live broadcast.

The forum, of a large scale and high level, also drew attention of many media partners. Only for the two days of forum, more than 60 mainstream media companies had interviews at the site and wrote more than 110 reports and stories about the event. The Compass (Bei Dou) satellite navigation system independently developed by China, real-time traffic information, connected navigation, as well as confidentiality, property right, and piracy of digital navigation map were all hot issues of the media's concern.

With improvement of the scale, level, and quality, NaviForum Shanghai 2007 has developed to an indispensable impetus to China navigation industry. It has provided a broad platform of idea exchange and business cooperation for international navigation industries and has won high appraisal from the industrial consortiums.
